Education Project
One of the ways we are combatting the lack of education for those living in the Isla Calzada is through High School Sponsorships. Classes are only offered up to grade 9, therefore any further studies would mean a student would have to travel off of the island to the nearest port city to continue studying.
This is very difficult because traveling and paying for school fees and materials can add up to be too expensive for a family to afford. Therefore, so many students are not able to attend High School simply because they cannot afford the cost.
We are so grateful, however, to have raised enough support to send 1 student to High School this year. We interviewed three candidates and, unfortunately are only able to support one student, we are pleased to introduce to you Fransisco Palacio. He is 15 years old and has already begun his studies. (In El Salvador the school year runs from the end of January to the end of October.) Fransisco has found an accelerated program where he studies all day on Sunday’s and it will take him 2 years to finish. This allows him to help his family by working during the week. Check out the video below to see and hear more from Fransisco and his family.
